Wimbledon 2025: Defending champion Alcaraz survives scare, beats Fognini in five-setter in 1st round

Carlos Alcaraz began his bid for a third straight Wimbledon title with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win over Italian veteran Fabio Fognini on Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London, on Monday.

World No. 2 Alcaraz, who is looking to clinch the sixth Major of his career, will take on British qualifier Oliver Tarvet in the second round.
