NorthEast United FC announced on Wednesday the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Jose Manuel ‘Chema’ Nunez for the upcoming 2025–26 season, with an option to extend for a further year.

“I’m excited to begin this new chapter with NorthEast United FC. I’ve heard great things about the club, its passionate fans, and the region’s love for football. I talked with the coach, and it convinced me that it was the best move for my career. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s ambitions and creating special memories together,” Chema said.

Who is Chema Nunez, NEUFC’s latest signing?

Chema, 27, joins the Highlanders from Spanish outfit Antequera CF, bringing with him a blend of creativity, vision, and attacking flair.

A product of Sevilla FC’s youth academy, Chema has previously represented clubs like Albacete and Real Betis ‘B’, gaining valuable experience within the highly competitive Spanish football ecosystem.

In the 2024–25 season, Chema featured in over 3,000 minutes in the Primera Federacion (third tier of Spanish football), recording one goal and 10 assists.

Chema is expected to join the NEUFC squad when the team starts its pre-season on 13 July in Guwahati.
