The T20 World Cup 2026, to be held in India and Sri Lanka, will feature 20 teams and consist of 55 matches. Just like the tournament in 2024, the teams will be divided into four groups of five teams each in the group stage, which will be followed by the Super Eights, the semifinals and the final.

Out of the 15 teams that have qualified for next year’s T20 World Cup, 12 secured automatic qualification by virtue of either being hosts, or reaching the Super Eights of the 2024 edition of the tournament, or ICC rankings. Canada, Netherlands and Italy punched their tickets via the Regional qualifying tournaments.
Which teams can qualify for T20 World Cup 2026?
The remaining five teams that will qualify for the next T20 World Cup will come through the Africa and Asia/East Asia-Pacific Regional Finals.
In the Africa Regional Finals, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe will fight for two qualification berths. Meanwhile, in the Asia/East Asia-Pacific qualifier tournament, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Samoa, and the UAE will be in contention for three spots.
When will the T20 World Cup 2026 qualifier tournaments take place?
The Africa Regional Final will take place between September 19 and October 4, while the Asian qualifier will run from October 1 to 17. Both tournaments will be held this year.
