The 37-year-old, who started his senior professional career at Rosario Central in Argentina, had moved to Benfica for his first stint in 2007. Eighteen years later, he looks to complete a circle as he heads back to Rosario from the Portuguese side.
Di Maria’s stats in club football:
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Paris Saint-Germain | 295 | 93 | 119 |
Benfica | 216 | 51 | 53 |
Real Madrid | 190 | 36 | 85 |
Juventus | 40 | 8 | 7 |
Rosario Central | 39 | 6 | 2 |
Manchester United | 32 | 4 | 11 |
Di Maria is one of the few players to have won significant silverware with Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Lionel Messi. He won the UEFA Champions League with Ronaldo in 2014 and two Copa Americas and the FIFA World Cup with Messi as part of the Argentine national team.
However, his stint at Benfica ended with a 1-4 defeat to Chelsea, after which he left the pitch in tears.
