WAFCON 2024: Ghana beats Algeria on penalties, sets up semifinal against Morocco

Ghanaian goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan rose to the occasion as the Black Queens beat Algeria 4-2 on penalties to reach the final of the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco on Saturday.

Konlan, who plays for Saudi Premier League side Al Hilal, saved attempts from Marine Dafeur and Ines Belloumou before Evelyn Badu converted from the spot.

The Black Queens will meet host Morocco to continue their pursuit of a maiden WAFCON title. They have reached the final thrice, with the last appearance coming 19 years ago.

Ghana started the match aggressively and Stella Nyamekye almost gave her side the lead when she found the net in the 27th minute. However, the goal was chalked off by VAR for an off-side in the build-up.
