Video emerges of youth being assaulted inside police station in Kallakurichi

Close on the heels of the custodial death of B. Ajith Kumar, a temple security guard, in Sivaganga district, a video of a youth being beaten up inside the Kacharapalayam police station in Kallakurichi district has emerged. The incident occurred on June 6, but the video has surfaced only now.

It shows a group of police personnel dragging a youth named Vicky, of Ervaipattinam, inside the police station and assaulting him. While one of the policemen records the video on his mobile phone, another is seen slapping Vicky and pushing him to the ground.

Vicky is the nephew of Malar, who had lodged a complaint against an overseas recruitment agent named Vijay. The agent had sent Malar’s husband Jayabal to Dubai in 2024 for employment. However, Jayabal returned to Kallakurichi within a month in poor health, and on ventilator support. He died at the Kallakurichi Government Medical College and Hospital three days later. Malar lodged a complaint against the recruitment agent following her husband’s death.

Sources said that Vicky went to the police station and questioned the Inspector for not taking any action on his aunt’s complaint. Enraged over this, the policemen assaulted him. Police sources said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident, and a constable named Manikandan had been transferred to the Armed Reserve.
