The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Employees Union – LPF on Thursday urged the State government to take up the restoration of the old headquarters building of the corporation located near Kellys. During a gate meeting held at Koyambedu, they said that only half of the office had been shifted to the rented building from the old structure, for which they pay a rent of ₹40 lakh per month. The government had recently announced ₹2 crore towards the restoration of the heritage structure. “We want the entire operations to be shifted back to our own building,” they said.
Soma. Azhagiri, general secretary of the Union, said that the government must provide a pension for civil supplies employees. “We also seek permanent jobs for procurement clerks, watchmen, and helpers at procurement centres. This can be done by filling up the vacancies in the department. Those who have joined in 2012 have still not been made permanent.”
