TNPL 2025 final: Tushar, Amith help IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans down defending champion Dindigul Dragons

When it comes to the big stage, like the final of a tournament, it is imperative to land the first punch and rattle the opponent. That is precisely what two young batters of IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Tushar Raheja and V.P. Amith Sathvik, did against Dindigul Dragons in the summit clash of TNPL-9 at the NPR College ground on Sunday. The result: Tamizhans clinched their maiden title, crushing the defending champion by a mammoth 118 runs.

Put in to bat, openers Amith (65, 34b, 8×4, 3×6) and Tushar (77, 46b, 6×4, 4×6), unfazed by the occasion, showed great intent and laid the foundation for their side to post an imposing 220 for five through their 121-run partnership off just 66 balls.

Amith meant business from the first ball of the inning as he punched pacer V. Bhuvaneshwar through covers to the ropes and added two more hits to the fence to set the tone. He then took on Varun Chakaravarthy for three boundaries in the PowerPlay, blunting the Dragons’ main weapon.

In the sixth, Amith flayed pacer G. Periyasamy over point and then scooped him over fine-leg for consecutive sixes before flicking him through the leg-side to bring up his half-century in just 25 deliveries.

Tushar then joined the party and tore apart R. Sasidharan for two fours and a six as Tamizhans raced to 100 in 8.1 overs.

The elegant left-hander then brought up his fifth half-century in nine games in style, hitting Bhuvaneshwar down the ground for consecutive fours.

In reply, the Dragons lost wickets in a flurry trying to keep up with a steep asking rate.

Shivam suffers injury

The fact that opener Shivam Singh could not bat after he hurt his hamstring while fielding piled on the misery for the Dragons.

When Hunny Saini was run-out in the seventh over—the fifth wicket to fall with just 57 on the board—the Dragons’ reign was all but over.
