Production has officially begun on The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci returning to reprise their roles. The sequel is being developed by Disney’s 20th Century Studios and is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.

Kenneth Branagh has joined the cast as the husband of Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, played once again by Streep. The studio confirmed the casting and start of production through a social media post featuring an image of red high heels, referencing the original film’s fashion-centric setting.

The first film, released in 2006 and based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she took a job at a high-profile fashion magazine under the demanding leadership of Miranda Priestly. The book, often viewed as a roman à clef, was loosely inspired by Weisberger’s time working as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

While detailed plot information for the sequel has not been released, reports suggest the story will center on Priestly facing the challenges of an evolving media landscape. Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, is now a senior executive at a luxury fashion group that holds key advertising influence, setting up a professional conflict between the former colleagues. It is unclear how Andy Sachs will fit into the new storyline.

Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who worked on the original film, are returning for the sequel. Producer Karen Rosenfelt is also back on board.
