Thailand thrashes Timor-Leste in AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers, trails India in standings on goal difference

Thailand, placed in the same group as India, opened its AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of Timor-Leste on Thursday.

Saowalak Peng-ngam starred with a first half hat-trick while Ploychompoo Somnuek scored the fourth goal for the host during stoppage time in second half.

The Thai are currently third in Group B, equal on points with India, but behind the Blue Tigresses on goal difference. Iraq tops the standings, having played two matches so far.

Thailand will next face Iraq on June 29, while India takes on Timor-Leste earlier on the same day.

The Indians opened their campaign with a record-breaking 13-0 drubbing of Mongolia which saw Pyari Xaxa bag five goals as Soumya Guguloth and Priyadharshini S scored a brace each.

Only the group winner qualifies for the Asian Cup set to be held in Australia next year.
