South Korea vs China — Jeon Jin-woo withdraws from squad, Seung-won earns first call-up
Jeon Jin-woo has withdrawn from the South Korean squad due to dizziness, before their opening match against China in the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) E-1 Football Championship on July 7.
The Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors midfielder had made it onto the national team after picking up one goal and one assist in his first two caps earlier this month, against Kuwait and Iraq, respectively.
He is also the leading scorer in the ongoing 2025 K-League 1, with 12 goals across 19 appearances.
However, he will now be replaced by Seoul FC midfielder Jeong Seung-won has replaced him in the squad.
Seung-won, a part of South Korea’s U23 Asian Cup-winning squad in 2020, gets his maiden call-up for the national team. He has won the South Korean Cup with Daegu FC in 2018 and can play both as a midfielder and a wing-back.
