An introductory concept teaser of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash was launched at multiple venues across the globe on Thursday (July 3). A grand retelling of the titular Indian epic, the upcoming film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Mind Creations. It will release in two parts on Diwali 2026 and 2027 respectively.

The teaser begins by introducing the cosmic trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, divine benefactors whose powers hold the universe in balance. It then sets the stage for the epic battle between Rama and Ravana, the timeless struggle of good over evil, described as the war to ‘end all wars’ and restore universal harmony.

The teaser ends with a grand GoT-style title sequence hyping the top-shelf cast and crew. While Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi play Lord Rama and Sita respectively in the film, KGF star Yash dons the role of the demon king Ravana. Meanwhile, veteran actor and action star Sunny Deol plays Hanuman while Ravie Dubey is Lakshman.

Mounted on a grand scale, the film boasts a constellation of global talents. Oscar-winning VFX house DNEG, now a part of Prime Focus, is working its magic on the visuals of Ramayana. Filmed in IMAX, the film will feature music by maestros Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Hollywood’s top stunt directors — Terry Notary (Avengers, Planet of the Apes) and Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa) — are choreographing the epic battles between gods and demons.

“An unlikely demon child transforms into Ravana — the most feared and indestructible king in all creation. His roar shakes the heavens, and his purpose is clear: to destroy Vishnu, the god of protection, whom he believes has always stood against his kind. To stop him, Vishnu descends to Earth in his weakest form — as a mortal prince named Rama,” reads a synopsis of the film.

Introducing his vision to the world, Nitesh Tiwari said the story of Ramayana carries the ‘soul’ of Indian culture. “Our aim was to honour that soul — and present it with the cinematic scale it truly deserves,” the Dangal director said. “As a filmmaker, it’s both a huge responsibility and a heartfelt honour to bring it to life. . It’s a tale that has endured across millennia because it speaks to something deep and eternal within us. We are not simply making a film. We are offering a vision — one rooted in reverence, shaped by excellence, and made to transcend borders.”

Showcasing the teaser at an IMAX venue in Mumbai, producer Namit Malhotra said, “My aspiration with pride is to take the greatest part of our culture and history and share it with the world. We are working incredibly hard and we will leave no stone unturned to make sure we deliver world-class product.” Recently, videos surfaced online of Ranbir Kapoor as he wrapped up filming for Ramayana. The actor Kapoor described the role as “the most important” of his career and expressed gratitude to his co-stars and team.
