Joining hands with a private hospital in Palayamkottai, the district administration has helped 20 poor students realise their dream of pursuing higher studies after having cleared their Class 12 exams.

District Collector R. Sukumar handed over the tuition fee of ₹1.52 lakh to 20 deprived students on Monday. Kannan, Managing Director of Porunai Hospitals, who sponsored the initiative, was present.

Dr. Sukumar said the district administration was taking every possible step to prevent dropout from the schools and ensuring their higher studies after Class 12 through guidance, counselling, and financial assistance through the sponsors and the banks. As the career guidance and counselling centre in the Collectorate, which can be contacted through 9500324417/9500524417, is manned by the academicians and the teachers, they guide the children about higher education.

Moreover, they track down dropouts based on the information they get from schools where these children studied Plus Two and take steps for their continued education. “The children of single parents are being helped financially for higher education. In this line, Porunai Hospital has joined hands with the district administration,” Dr. Sukumar said.

District Revenue Officer M. Suganya, District Social Welfare Officer Thajunnisa Begum, and Chief Educational Officer Sivakumar were present.
