Outflow from Kabini to be increased, flood warning issued

The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) has issued a flood warning to people living in the downstream of the Kabini dam as the authorities intend to step up the outflow from the reservoir.

A release said that the catchment area of the river was receiving heavy rains, as a result of which the rate of inflow into the dam had increased to more than 20,000 cusecs on Thursday. As the reservoir level was almost nearing the maximum level of 2284 feet, the authorities said that the outflow will be increased to nearly 35,000 cusecs soon.

Hence, people have been appealed to relocate to safer places along with their livestock and not venture near the river bank. The authorities have also warned that due to rise in the outflow, the Bidarahalli bridge is expected to submerge.

Meanwhile, the water level at the Kabini dam was 2282.43 feet on Thursday evening, and the inflow was 24,381 cusecs.
