No Indonesian clubs in ASEAN Club Championship 2025; only top two teams in league allowed says AFF
Only the top two teams from each league will be allowed in the ASEAN Club Championship 2025, according to a regulation enforced by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).
The update was confirmed by PT Liga Indonesia Baru President Director Ferry Paulus in a press conference on Thursday.
Indonesia had hoped to send its 3rd and 4th placed finishers in the league, Persebaya and Malut United, but the request was denied. The official team list released by AFF shows no clubs from Indonesia or Timor-Leste.
The absence of teams from the aforementioned two countries means the tournament will now have 14 participating teams, out of which two will be eliminated after the Playoff stages.
Buriram United, BG Pathum United and Bangkok United will be the teams representing Thailand. Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC is the sole representative from Cambodia.
Johor Darul Ta’zim and Selangor FC from Malaysia, Cong An Ha Noi and Thep Xanh Nam Dinh from Vietnam and Lion City Sailors and Tampines Rovers will be the other teams with direct slots.
Phillippines’ DH Cebu FC, Laos’ Ezra FC, Myanmar’s Shan United FC and Brunei’s Kasuka FC will battle it out in the Playoffs for the last two direct spots.
