Missing DU Student Sneha Debnath Found Dead Under Flyover In Delhi | India News


A 19-year-old Delhi University student, Sneha Debnath, a resident of Tripura who had been missing, was found dead under a flyover in Delhi on Sunday night, police said.

Earlier, 19-year-old Delhi University student Sneha Debnath family has reportedly discovered a handwritten note in her room.

A senior police official stated that Sneha Debnath’s body was recovered from the Yamuna River and identified by her family. Preliminary reports suggest she died by suicide after jumping into the river.

“However, the Delhi police are conducting a full-fledged inquiry into the incident,” official told IANS.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha extended help to the bereaved family. “The Chief Minister has ordered a detailed probe into the incident and asked the officials of Tripura Bhavan in New Delhi to extend all kinds of help to the family members of Sneha,” said an official of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

“DGP (Director General of Police), Tripura, Anurag personally contacted the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, requesting him to take steps to rescue the girl. The DGP is personally monitoring the case,” the official said.

 

Senior Tripura Police officials remain in close coordination with their Delhi counterparts over the case, the official said, adding that more details are awaited.

Sneha Debnath, the daughter of a military man, was pursuing a mathematics degree at a Delhi University college. Since her disappearance, her father, Prithish Debnath, had been actively urging Delhi Police to locate her and also sought the intervention of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also handles the Home portfolio, to take necessary steps in the search for his daughter.

The family of four has been residing in Delhi for several years and remains deeply distressed over the incident. According to relatives, Sneha left home without taking any belongings and had not made any ATM withdrawals in recent months. Her bank account also remains untouched.
