Minister suggests measures to improve medical education at Dr. NTRUHS

A robust monitoring system must be established to improve the quality of medical education, pedagogy, and to improve student and teacher attendance, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav told officials at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (Dr. NTRUHS) on Wednesday.
Reviewing universities performance at a meeting in Vijayawada, alongside Vice-Chancellor P. Chandrasekhar, Director of Medical Education (DME) D.S.V.L. Narasimham and Registrar Radhika Reddy, Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav expressed displeasure upon learning that no inspections have been conducted by the varsity so far to improve medical education standards.
According to a press release from the department, the Minister noted with concern that one of the main objectives of the varsity, established in 1986, was to raise the standards of research and medical education. He directed the authorities to conduct inspections and submit reports to him regularly.
The Minister also enquired about the research projects at the varsity, and was unhappy that it did not match the expectations. According to the release, he emphasised the need for more research to be taken up on disease patterns in the State, and stated that such efforts should contribute to the development of medical science. He urged the university to formulate strong policies for research.
He also announced the formation of a committee to review the university’s performance over the past 39 years. The committee will identify its shortcomings and challenges, and will develop an action plan to ensure better performance.
