Manchester United and Leeds players pay tribute to Diogo Jota ahead of pre-season friendly

Ahead of a pre-season friendly on Saturday, players of Manchester United and Leeds observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.

Jota and his brother Andre tragically passed away after a fatal car crash earlier this month in the city of Zamora in northwestern Spain.

United coach Ruben Amorim, along with the team’s Portuguese players in Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, had visited Anfield on July 14 to lay flowers and pay tribute to the deceased brothers.

Jota, 28, had his best professional stint at Liverpool, winning the FA Cup and League Cup under manager Jurgen Klopp before being victorious in the Premier League under Arne Slot in the 2024/25 season. He was also part of the Portugal squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.

Andre, 26, was also a professional football player, plying his trade for Portuguese second-division side Penafiel.
