Man chased, hacked to death by armed gang in Sivaganga
An armed gang reportedly chased a 29-year-old man, identified as Manoj Prabhu, son of Chellachami from Thamaraki village in Sivaganga district, and assaulted him with deadly weapons, killing him on the spot on Friday (July 4, 2025) night.
Initial inquiries by the police suggest that Manoj Prabhu, who worked abroad, had come home for a holiday. He had gone to a temple festival in Idayamelur with two of his friends, Ajith Kumar and Hariharan. When the trio was returning home, a gang is said to have chased them in a car.
After catching up with them, the gang targeted and killed Manoj Prabhu. His friends, who tried to save him, sustained injuries. The gang later escaped, the police said.
Sivaganga Superintendent of Police (in-charge) G. Chandeesh said on Saturday (July 5) that some suspects have been detained for questioning. Once the police secure the accused, the cause and motive will be revealed.
An officer, who is part of the investigation, said that they have obtained a few clues, and that the accused would be apprehended shortly.
