Kishore Jena ruled out of Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, Yash Vir Singh named replacement

Kishore Jena has been ruled out of the upcoming Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 due to an ankle injury, with Yash Vir Singh named as his replacement.

Jena, who finished second behind Neeraj at the Hangzhou Asian Games with a personal best of 87.54m, was one of the five Indian javelin throwers in the initial lineup along with Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav and Sahil Silwal.

Yash Vir Singh, currently ranked 41st in men’s javelin throw, has a personal best of 82.57m, which came at the 2025 Asian Championships in Gumi, Korea.

Billed as India’s first-ever international javelin competition, the event is a collaboration between Neeraj Chopra, JSW Sports, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), and World Athletics (WA).

It will be the highest-tier international athletics meet ever held in India.

Leading the field is Neeraj, Olympic champion and reigning world title-holder. He’ll be joined by an elite group of throwers, including Anderson Peters (Grenada), two-time world champion Thomas Rohler (Germany) and Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Julius Yego (Kenya).

Originally set for May 24, the event was rescheduled due to security considerations and will not be held on July 5 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
