KFON secures Category A licence, to be nationwide ISP

Kerala Fibre Optic Network Ltd (KFON), Kerala government’s broadband Internet service, has secured Internet Service Provider (ISP) Category A national licence from the Department of Telecommunications, which authorises it to offer Internet services across the country.

At a ceremony held in New Delhi on Tuesday, Dileep Singh Sengar, Under Secretary of the DoT AS Division, handed over the certificate to Santhosh Babu, Managing Director of KFON. The event was also attended by KFON’s Chief Technology Officer Murali Kishore, Chief Sales Officer Bilstin D. Geo, Chief Financial Officer Prem Kumar G, and Manager Suraj A.

In addition to the robust network infrastructure already established across Kerala, KFON will now expand its footprint to other States and collaborate with leading Internet service providers to ensure seamless connectivity nationwide.

Describing the ISP-A licence as a major milestone in KFON’s journey, Mr. Babu said the achievement would further energise efforts to deliver enhanced services across India. He emphasized that KFON is committed to offering high-quality Internet services and continues to serve as a vital digital backbone for the State.

When banks or corporate houses which have their headquarters in other States call for tenders, most of them ask for ISP A licence as one of the requirements. KFON applied for the licence considering this requirement. As for starting operations outside the State, the company’s plan is to saturate the Kerala market before it enters other States.
