Jonny Evans extends Manchester United stay in youth development role – reports


Former Manchester United player Jonny Evans has agreed a staff role that will tap into his knowledge of youth development at the Premier League club.

According to reports, an agreement is in place for Evans to look after loans of emerging talents at Old Trafford United after he called time on his playing career recently.

The 37-year-old returned to United in 2023 after eight years away and made 43 appearances

But his football experience is seen as vital to keep at United, where he won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, a Champions League and a Club World Cup in his first spell. Evans rose through the ranks at United, having first attended the club’s centre of excellence in Belfast aged nine, making his debut in September 2007 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

After leaving Old Trafford in 2015 he joined West Bromwich Albion and then Leicester City. Evans returned to United on a free transfer under Erik ten Hag at the start of 2023-24 season. On 30 May 2025, he played his last professional football match against Hong Kong during United’s post-season Asia tour.

He retired from professional football, totalling over 600 appearances for club and country in 19 years

Evans also earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland, where he featured in the last 16 at Euro 2016.
