IRGC Confirms Commander Ali Shadmani Killed in Israeli Airstrike, Vows ‘Harsh Revenge’ | World News
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that its commander Major General Ali Shadmani has died of injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike last week.
According to Iranian media reports, the IRGC has vowed to take “harsh revenge” for Shadmani’s killing.
Shadmani, a key aide to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, took command just four days after his predecessor, Major General Gholam-Ali Rashid, died in another Israeli attack.
On June 17, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that it had killed Major General Ali Shadmani, Iran’s senior military commander, in a nighttime airstrike in Tehran.
The IDF said the airstrike was carried out after receiving “precise intelligence” and taking advantage of a “sudden opportunity” to target a staffed command center in Tehran.
According to the IDF, Shadmani was commanding the IRGC and the Iranian Armed Forces. Shadmani commanded the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which was Iran’s crisis command center for handling combat operations and approving attack plans against Israel.
Shadmani has previously served as deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters and head of the Operations Directorate of Iran’s General Staff.
In another development, US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that talks with Iran are scheduled next week. He added that Iran “may sign an agreement” regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme.
“I’ll tell you what, we’re going to talk with them next week, with Iran. We may sign an agreement, I don’t know,” HT reported, quoting Trump. He was speaking at a press conference during the NATO summit in the Netherlands.

The US on Saturday bombed three Iranian nuclear plants – Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan – under ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’. The US attacked Iran because it has always opposed Tehran’s possession of nuclear weapons.
After US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Tehran on Monday attacked America’s air base in Qatar. After the attack on the US airbase, Trump on Tuesday announced a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran.
The ceasefire announcement between Israel and Iran has been described as “good news” by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, who noted that this was the moment that all parties related to the matter “return to the negotiating table”.
In a series of posts on X on Tuesday, the EU Foreign Policy Chief urged all sides who were involved in the conflict in the region to refrain from further violence and avoid escalation.
