Indians in County Championship: Hampshire counting on Tilak Varma’s rescue act; Chahal goes wicket-less for Northamptonshire


Tilak Varma was unbeaten on 10 runs off 32 deliveries at the end of the second day between Hampshire and Worcestershire in the County Championship in Southampton on Monday.

The Hyderabad batter came in to bat at 54 for three, and dropped anchor to see the day out with captain Ben Brown< who will resume from seven runs on day three. Hampshire ended day two on 68.

Tilak had struck a century on debut, and Hampshire will need his batting prowess once more as it faces h a mammoth first-innings score of 679 from Worcestershire.

Ishan Kishan, who also impressed on his County debut for Nottinghamshire, is yet to bat against Somerset.

Among the bowlers, Yuzvendra Chahal of Northamptonshire had a tough outing against Kent. The leg-spinner bowled 42 overs and conceded 129 runs, failing to pick a wicket. Kent scored 566 in its first innings and Northamptonshire had wiped off 140 runs off the deficit at the cost of one wicket.

Khaleel Ahmed made a lacklustre start to his time with Essex. He bowled nine overs on the second day against Yorkshire and conceded 40 runs with nothing to show for his effort.
