India vs England, 2nd Youth ODI: Thomas Rew century takes ENG U19 to win in last-over thriller

Thomas Rew struck a quickfire century which allowed England Under-19 to overhaul the target of 291 by one wicket at the County Ground in Northampton on Monday.

Rew smashed an invaluable 131 off 89 balls after England Under-19 had slipped to 47 for three in the chase. He first managed a 123-run fourth-wicket partnership with Rocky Flintoff before another combining for another 60 runs for the fifth wicket with Joseph Moores.

India nabbed Rew and picked a flurry of middle-order wickets. The home side lost four wickets for 24 runs which dragged the match till the final over.

England Under-19 needed seven runs off the final over with Alex French and Sebastian Morgan standing for the last wicket. The latter finished the job with three deliveries to spare.

RS Ambrish was the pick of the bowlers, managing four for 80. Henil Patel and Yudhajit Guha picked two wickets each.

India was left ruing a big score in the first innings. Four batters got past the 40-run mark, but could not convert the starts, and fell even before hitting half-centuries.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided India Under-19 a brisk start with his 45 off 34.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave India an explosive start after captain Ayush Mhatre fell for a golden duck. The southpaw scored 45 off 34. Vihaan Malhotra, walked in at No. 3, and fell just one short of his fifty to Jack Home.

A big score was not on the cards when India Under-19 lost half its side for 171 runs in the 32nd over. But Rahul Kumar and Kanishk Chouhan added 78-runs for the sixth wicket and revived the innings.

But even they failed to make it past 50, and their wickets meant England Under-19 could wrap up the innings with an over to spare.
