ENG-W vs IND-W, 2nd ODI: Ecclestone, Jones help England beat India by eight wickets to level series

England Women beat India Women by eight wickets (by DLS method) in the second Women’s One-Day International at Lord’s on Saturday to level the three-match series 1–1.

In a rain-marred 29-over match, the host chased down a revised target of 115 with 18 balls to spare.

Openers Tammy Beaumont (34) and Amy Jones (46) laid a solid foundation with a 54-run stand before Beaumont was trapped leg before by Sneh Rana. Jones then joined forces with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt to take control of the 144-run chase once again.

AS IT HAPPENED: ENG-W vs IND-W 2nd ODI Highlights

Before reaching the 20-over mark needed to constitute a game, the rains returned to send the players briefly back to the pavilion. When play resumed, England only needed 13 runs in 5.2 overs (32 deliveries).

Two balls into the restart, Kranti Goud knocked over Sciver-Brunt’s off-stump. But England was still well ahead and eased to a comfortable victory.

Earlier, England’s spinners dominated a faltering Indian batting line-up, claiming six of the eight wickets. Smriti Mandhana (42) and Deepti Sharma (30) were the only notable contributors.

Smriti watched wickets fall at the other end before finding some rhythm with Deepti. But the vice-captain was soon caught at cover by Charlie Dean off Linsey Smith’s bowling.

But it was Sophie Ecclestone who starred with the ball, taking three for 27 in six overs. She opened her account by catching Harleen Deol off her bowling and then cleaned up Harmanpreet Kaur. She then went on to dismiss Richa Ghosh leg before.

Deepti remained unbeaten but couldn’t guide India to a competitive total.
