East Bengal thrashes Measurers Club to open CFL 2025-25 campaign; Debutant Manotos Maji gets on scoresheet

East Bengal began its Calcutta Football League (CFL) 2025-26 campaign with a 7-1 drubbing of Measurers Club at the Naihati Bankimanjali stadium on Friday.
Debutant Manotos Maji opened the scoring as Sayan Banerjee, Vanlalpeka Guite, Tanmay Das, Jesin TK, and Suman Dey got on the scoresheet. The Red and Gold Brigade led 3-0 at half-time.
Manotos opened the scoring for East Bengal in the 23rd minute, capitalising on a precise assist from Guite who cut into the rival box from the left. Sayan doubled the lead in the 35th minute with a well-timed lob off Chaku Mandi’s assist.
Guite then turned scorer in the 37th minute as he latched on to a well-timed pass from Naseeb Rahman, showcasing his side’s fluid attacking play.
The second half saw midfielder Tanmay score the fourth goal of the game with a long-range strike in the 48th minute.
Jesin TK, who was the top-scorer in the tournament’s previous edition with 13 goals, continued his scoring spree, striking twice in the space of three minutes. He scored his first goal in the 63rd minute off Ajad Saheem’s low-driven cross from the right and followed it up with another goal in the 66th minute, this time with a left-footed finish from close range.
Andy Zakhari scored the only goal for Measurers Club against the run of play in the 69th minute.
Suman added his name into the scoresheet with a long-range strike in the fourth minute of the second half stoppage time.
East Bengal next plays Suruchi Sangha on July 3.
