Breaking: Veteran Actor-Producer Dheeraj Kumar Dies At 80, Cremation Likely To Be Held On July 16 | People News
New Delhi: Veteran producer, director, and actor Dheeraj Kumar, known for renowned films like Roti Kapada Aur Makaan and others, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, in Mumbai after his prolonged battle for life in the ICU. As reported by IANS, the 80-year-old actor breathed his last at 11:40 AM, with his son present during his final moments. Hospital formalities are expected to take two to three hours, following which the body will be brought home.
The cremation is likely to take place on Wednesday, as family members from Punjab are expected to arrive.
His family said in a statement issued to IANS, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dheeraj Kumar, a renowned actor, producer, and director, who left us due to cardiac arrest. He was under treatment at Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri West and was on ventilator support. The industry mourns the loss of a talented professional who contributed significantly to the world of entertainment. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace”.
The actor-producer had previously been rushed and admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in the Andheri area of Mumbai.
As per a previous report by IANS, he was suffering from acute pneumonia and was in critical condition as he was on ventilator support in the ICU.
The actor was 80 at the time of his demise.

His family had earlier released a statement requesting privacy, saying, “We ask for your prayers for his speedy recovery and kindly urge everyone to respect our privacy during this challenging time.”

Dheeraj Kumar began his journey in the entertainment industry in 1965 as one of the finalists in a talent show alongside Subhash Ghai and Rajesh Khanna, with Rajesh Khanna eventually winning the competition. Between 1970 and 1984, he acted in 21 Punjabi films. Later, he founded the production company Creative Eye, where he serves as chairman and managing director. Notably, the song “Ka Karoon Sajani, Aaye Na Balam” from the film Swami was picturized on him. He also appeared in films like Heera Panna and Raaton Ka Raja.
