Botafogo appoints Carlo Ancelotti’s son Davide as manager

Botafogo appointed Davide Ancelotti, the son of Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti, as its new manager, the Brazilian club announced on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Ancelotti, who served as an assistant to his father at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and most recently Real Madrid, has signed a one-year contract with Botafogo.

Ancelotti left Real at the end of last season along with his father, and he was also announced as an assistant coach to the Brazil national team last month.

Botafogo sacked manager Renato Paiva last week following its FIFA Club World Cup exit, despite Paiva guiding the side to a win over Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the competition.

Paiva’s team went out at the Round of 16 stage with a 1-0 loss after extra time to fellow Brazilian club Palmeiras, and the manager, after four months in the role, was shocked by the club’s decision.
