Bangladesh qualifies for maiden AFC Women’s Asian Cup

Bangladesh created history on Wednesday after qualifying for its maiden AFC Women’s Asian Cup after winning two matches so far in Group C.

The draw between Bahrain and Turkmenistan earlier in the day confirmed the Bengal Tigresses’ place in next year’s tournament in Australia.

Earlier in the campaign, they had eased past Bahrain with a thumping scoreline of 7-0. Strikes from Shamsunnahar J, Ritu Porna Chakma, Kohati Kisku, Tohura Khatun, Munki Akhter, and an own goal from Bahrain’s Rawan Alali ensured all three points.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh beat higher-ranked Myanmar 2-1. Win Win scored a late goal for the host which turned out to be consolatory as Ritu Porna Chakma’s brace was enough to consolidate the Bengal Tigresses’ position at the top of Group C with six points from two matches.

Bangladesh faces Turkmenistan in its final match, and even a loss is set to not affect its qualification since it has a better head-to-head record, having beaten Myanmar, which is placed second now.
