The Telangana Government is gearing up to enact a legislation for protecting the interests of gig and platform workers soon.
It is actively considering constitution of a board exclusively to deal with the problems of these workers, Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkat Swamy said addressing a press conference held in Hyderabad on Friday (June 27, 2025).
Rajasthan and Karnataka governments have already put in place legislations for gig and platform workers and the Telangana government would soon bring out its own legislation in line with the assurance given by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
The government had accordingly sought views of the people, stakeholders in particular, on the draft legislation put in public domain and it had so far received 66 recommendations/suggestions. “We will soon take the first step to protect the interests of gig and platform workers,” the Minister said.

Simultaneously, the government was holding discussions with the concerned unions and taking feedback from them for bringing out an effective legislation which would be placed before the State Cabinet soon.
There were over 4.5 lakh gig and platform workers across the State and the new Act would be of immense help in protecting their rights.
