FIFA Club World Cup: Guardiola gives injury update on Echeverri before Man City vs Juventus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that his side suffered a major injury blow in Claudio Echeverri before their final group-stage match against Juventus on Thursday.

Echeverri, who scored from a stunning free-kick on his first start for City twisted his ankle during City’s previous match, a 6-0 win over Al Ain that secured its qualification into the final 16.

The attacking midfielder had to leave the field after half-time due to injury.

“He has some problems with his ankle. It’ll be two or three weeks out unfortunately. I feel so sorry for him, for all of us,” Guardiola told reporters.

Guardiola’s update means the Argentine is likely to miss the rest of the tournament.

City is tied with Juventus on six points but sits second in the group. The runner-up plays the winner of Group H in the round of 16, which is currently Real Madrid.
