Miscreants hurl petrol bombs on school vehicles in Tirunelveli
Unidentified persons, suspected to be the relatives of a student who ended his life, hurled Molotov cocktail on the school buses and the vans near Veeravanallur on Thursday (July 17, 2025). midnight.
Police said S. Sabari Kannan, 15, a Class X student from Maanaabharananallur near Veeravanallur did not study well and reportedly behaved in unruly manner in the school on July 4. Subsequently, the teachers censured him. Upset over this, Sabari Kannan consumed poison on July 7 when he came to the school in the morning and swooned on the school premises during the prayer session. He was immediately taken to the Cheranmahadevi Government Hospital.
After the first-aid and due treatment, he was taken to a private hospital in Madurai, where he died on Thursday night even as he was under treatment.

Against this backdrop, unidentified persons hurled Molotov cocktail on the school vehicles parked along Veeravanallur–Vellankuli Road after midnight, in which some of the vans and buses suffered extensive damage.
Fire tenders from Cheranmahadevi and the Veeravanallur policemen rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
During investigation, police found that some of the protesters while returning home had lobbed the petrol bombs on the buses and vans to express their anger.
