Atalanta has confirmed that new manager Ivan Juric was hospitalised with an upper respiratory tract infection, resulting in him missing the club’s first day of pre-season.

In a statement on the side’s website, Atalanta confirmed that Juric had been admitted to Bolognini Hospital and was currently undergoing treatment. According to the statement, Juric’s “current clinical status is showing significant improvement, and he is expected to be discharged within the next few days.”

Juric took over as Atalanta manager in June, replacing veteran manager Gian Piero Gasperini upon his departure to Roma.

Juric was most recently in charge of Southampton, but departed upon its relegation from the Premier League. He has considerable experience managing in Serie A, having spent time at helm numerous clubs including Roma, Hellas Verona, Torino, and Genoa.
