Tesla India Showroom And First Car: Elon Musk’s Tesla has finally entered the Indian car market with the launch of its first showroom in Mumbai. The American electric carmaker has set up a showroom at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), with a 4,000-square-foot space that marks its long-awaited debut in India. While Tesla is not manufacturing in the country at the moment, the company has launched the Model Y as its first offering in India. It will be available in two variants- Standard and Long Range, priced at Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
Range And Performance
The Standard variant of the Tesla Model Y offers a WLTP range of up to 500 km and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The Long Range version pushes the range to 622 km (WLTP) and does the 0-100 km/h run in 5.6 seconds. Both models come with rear-wheel drive and have a claimed top speed of 201 km/h.
Features
In India, the Model Y is loaded with features such as a 15.3-inch touchscreen, power-adjustable, ventilated and heated front seats, two-way power-folding and heated rear seats, a 9-speaker audio system, an 8-inch rear display, ambient lighting, front and rear powered AC vents, and eight exterior cameras.
Warranty
It also gets a panoramic glass roof. Buyers can opt for Tesla’s well-known Autopilot feature (autonomous driving tech) for an extra Rs 6 lakh. The company offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km on the vehicle, whichever is earlier. The battery and drive unit are covered for 8 years or up to 1,92,000 km, whichever comes first.
Rivals
Though the Model Y arrives in India as a fully imported unit, its pricing remains competitive against rivals like the Kia EV6 and Volvo C40 Recharge. Deliveries for the Standard variant are set to begin within this quarter, while the Long Range version is expected to follow from October.
