Chief Justice inaugurates staff canteen, supermarket on Madras High Court campus

The Madras High Court Officers and Staff Association on Monday (July 14, 2025) succeeded in fulfilling the long-pending demand of the court staff to reopen a cooperative canteen on the court premises. It also established a Triplicane Urban Cooperative Society (TUCS) Kamadhenu supermarket on the court campus.
Chief Justice K.R. Shriram inaugurated the canteen and the supermarket in the presence of the High Court’s building committee chairperson Justice R. Subramanian and members Justices P.T. Asha and N. Mala. Justices Sunder Mohan and N. Senthilkumar too participated in the inaugural event.
The judges also tasted the food at the canteen. They were taken around the canteen building by association president A. Raman. Office-bearer V. Venkatasubramanian said, the staff canteen had been an eight-year-long dream and that this time, it had been started after the formation of a cooperative society.
He thanked the Public Works Department executive engineer S. Kulanthaiyan for having designed the canteen building beautifully with an airy and roomy dining hall on the first floor and advocate Babu for having assisted the association in registering the newly formed cooperative society for running the canteen.
