WATCH: Kylian Mbappe’s stunning first Club World Cup goal for Real Madrid against Dortmund
Kylian Mbappe’s wait for a first FIFA Club World Cup was extinguished on Saturday after the forward’s stoppage-time effort sealed Real Madrid’s place in the semifinal.
The French striker missed the entirety of the group phase of the tournament with gastroenteritis and only managed a substitute appearance in the last game against Juventus.
The 26-year-old scored an acrobatic kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time to extend Madrid’s lead after a goal by Maximilliam Beier two minutes before had brought Borussia Dortmund to within a goal of Madrid.
Despite Mbappe’s effort, a red card for Dean Huijsen in the sixth minute of stoppage time and a penalty by Serhou Guirassy in the eighth minute meant Los Blancos had to survive some nervy moments before sealing a semifinal tie against UEFA Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain.
