Prominent businessman and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader of Bihar Gopal Khemka was murdered on Friday (July 4, 2025) night in State capital Patna when he was returning home at around 12 midnight.
The unidentified criminals shot the renowned industrialist who is also the owner of Magadh Hospital from point blank range under Gandhi Maidan police station area near Ramgulam Chowk.
Khemka was rushed to a private hospital where the team of doctors declared him dead. He was shot by the bike-borne criminals when he was stepping out from his car near his house. He was also the owner of petrol pumps apart from running several other industries.
The police reached the spot after one and half hours of the incident. The incident also reminds of his family tragedy when his son Gunjan Khemka was shot dead by the criminals in Hajipur industrial area of Vaishali district.
According to the police, Khemka was returning from Bankipore Club when the incident took place. Police station was just 300 metres away from the spot. Purnia MP Pappu Yadav visited his house last night to meet the family members.
It took a lot of time for the police to reach the spot despite a police station located near the shooting site, Khemka’s younger brother Shankar alleged.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikey Sharma has formed a special task force team to nab the criminals. However, no arrest has been made so far in the case.
Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) slammed the Nitish Kumar government over the incident alleging that law and order has completely collapsed in the State.
RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed said, “Nitish Kumar is in an unconscious state and the bureaucrats have totally captured him. He does not know what is happening around him. He is just busy saving his chair and how to corner our leader Tejashwi Yadav who is continuously raising questions on law and order.”
In another incident, three people were shot dead in Siwan district at Bhagwanpur block on Friday evening.
