Germany’s Adidas Originals, CLOT redefine sport style with summer drop

In a new campaign to coincide with the collection, the tennis icon Stan Smith and CLOT Creative Director Edison Chen join South Korean actress and model Hoyeon, British artist and skateboarder Blondey, awarded F1 driver George Russell, and social personality and model Jashlem. Set against the backdrop of a country club that is at first glance pristine and traditional; rules are instead rewritten and not followed. From playful styling to surreal portrayals, the setting is subtly subverted to reflect a youthful energy and creative irreverence to the norm. The result is a reinterpretation of legacy codes through an unexpected, bold, and uniquely CLOT lens, with a nod to the heritage of adidas Originals.
Adidas Originals and Edison Chen have unveiled a bold new collection blending heritage with streetwear, highlighted by the reimagined CLOT Stan Smith Espadrille.
Fusing tradition and rebellion, the footwear features espadrille soles and intricate detailing in both white and black.
Unisex club-ready apparel echoes varsity nostalgia with modern twists.
“The Stan Smith is a silhouette I wanted to explore from the very beginning of our partnership,” said Edison Chen, founder of CLOT. “Integrating an espadrille sole into such a legendary sneaker was a unique challenge, but it opened up new creative possibilities that reflect the spirit of both tradition and rebellion.”
The new CLOT Stan Smith espadrille sees the Stan Smith, named after the tennis legend, himself, undergo a transformative design process reflecting Edison Chen’s evolved philosophy of cultural fusion, one that speaks through material choice rather than overt symbolism. An espadrille sole represents a masterful deconstruction of the iconic tennis silhouette, reimagining it through the lens of seasonal craftsmanship and contemporary streetwear sensibilities. A classic white version features a pristine deconstructed upper paired with a traditional espadrille sole, enhanced by intricate embroidery details that add texture and visual interest, while a black iteration pushes material boundaries through its use of a synthetic jute-inspired construction, addressing the practical challenges of dyeing natural fibers while maintaining the authentic espadrille aesthetic. This version features the same deconstructed upper philosophy, elevated by a distinctive chenille heel mustache detail that adds tactile richness and visual contrast. Both colorways feature CLOT and Stan Smith branding on the heel tabs, providing a subtle nod to the collaboration’s prestigious lineage.
The apparel offering includes cotton crocheted vest and striped polos with matching fringed shorts and a tailored camp shirt with subtle lace embroidery over the classic adidas three-stripes. A palette of forest green, cream, chocolate brown, and subtle hints of maroon and gold evoke varsity nostalgia while offering a fresh take on athletic-inspired silhouettes.
This highly anticipated release reflects Edison Chen’s mission to bridge East and West, old and new, and bring to life a new take on rich sporting heritage.
