IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill records highest score by an Indian captain in away Test

Shubman Gill on Thursday scored a double century against England during the second Test in Birmingham, recording the highest score by an Indian captain in an overseas Test.

Virat Kohli held the record with his 200 against West Indies at North Sound in 2016 being the previous best by an Indian captain away from home.

Gill’s double century was also the first by an Indian captain in England. Only five other India captains have recorded double tons in Tests – MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli and MS Dhoni.

Gill also became the second-youngest captain after Pataudi to reach 200 in Tests.
