Asian Champion Yarraji confirms injury during training; suffers setback in World Championship participation
Asian champion Jyoti Yarraji has suffered a knee injury during training, dealing a blow to her preparations for the World Championships later this year, the 100m hurdler confirmed on Wednesday.
“Due to an unfortunate injury to my knee during training a few days back, I’ve had to put a pause on my season,” Yarraji, who holds the national record of 12.78 seconds, posted on her Instagram story.
“I’m working with my medical team to assess my options and take a decision on the way forward,” said the 25-year-old.
Yarraji had won gold at the Asian Athletics Championships with a time of 12.96 seconds, but is yet to meet the automatic qualification mark of 12.73 for the World Championships in September. She remained in contention for a spot via the world rankings, but the injury has now disrupted her progress.
Currently ranked 12th among athletes eligible through the ranking quota, she would have needed to compete in more events before the August 24 deadline to maintain her position.
“Injuries are part of an athlete’s journey, and I’m viewing this as just another hurdle I’m going to overcome soon with all your support and blessings. I’ll be back stronger,” she said.
