Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav on Friday (June 27, 2025) approved the proposal for the appointment of P. Padma Sesidhar as the Director of the Public Health and Family Welfare.

According to an official release on Saturday (June 28, 2025), Dr. Sesidhar was working as the Regional Director, Medical and Health Services, in Rajamahendravaram, at the time of her transfer. Earlier, she had worked as the Deputy Civil Surgeon in the office of District Medical and Health Officer, Kakinada. She will be replacing K. Padmavathi, who had hitherto been the Director.

Dr. Sesidhar completed her MBBS from Andhra University in 1984 and did her postgraduation from Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada.

Dr. Sesidhar’s appointment is a part of the overhaul of the Health Department, during which more than 7,000 healthcare and supporting staff have been transferred.

Mr. Satya Kumar also approved the transfers of 33 more healthcare staff to ensure proper delivery medical services to the people, said the release.

Following the recent transfers that were completed on June 19, a few additional changes in the department are under way. Taking into consideration the requests from the Collectors of Anantapur, Bapatla and Vizianagaram districts, the Health Minister has stalled the transfers of six doctors and approved their continuation in their previous posts, the release said.

Other appointments

Only six doctors are working at the 100-bed Rayadurgam Area Hospital in Anantapur district, against the requirement of 23 doctors. Of these, three were transferred recently. However, the three doctors have been permitted to continue their services at the hospital with none expressing willingness to work in these posts.

Two doctors, who have been working in Chirala Area Hospital for more than five years, were transferred. With no one coming forward to work in the respective posts, the doctors are continuing with their posts.

Similar changes have been made at Chirala Area Hospital in Prakasam district and Salur Area Hospital in Vizianagaram district too, the release added.

Meanwhile, M. Haimavati, who was working at the Visakhapatnam Government Hospital for Mental Care, has been appointed as the Anakapalle District Medical and Health Officer.

K. Arjun Rao, Joint Director in the Office of the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, has been transferred as the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).
