NEW DELHI: RJD leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of influencing the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. He alleged that the Prime Minister has instructed the poll body to cancel the entire voter list of Bihar and prepare a new one based on documents from before 1987.Tejashwi made the allegation in a post on X, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Election Commission to cancel Bihar’s entire voter list and create a new voter list within 25 days, using only paper-based evidence from before 1987. In their frustration over electoral defeat, these people are now conspiring to strip Bihar and its people of their voting rights.”He further claimed that under the pretext of a “special intensive revision,” people’s names would be removed from the voter rolls, affecting their access to basic welfare schemes.“Under the guise of a special intensive revision, they will remove your vote to prevent the issuance of voter ID cards. Then, they will deprive you of ration, pension, reservation, scholarships, and other scheme benefits,” Tejashwi added. He also mentioned raising the issue with other leaders in the opposition alliance. “I discussed this matter in detail with Mahagathbandhan colleagues during a press conference yesterday,” he said. The statement comes just months before Bihar goes to polls for 243 assembly seats. The BJP, led by Prime Minister Modi, is contesting in alliance with Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) under the NDA banner. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, as part of the opposition INDIA bloc, will challenge the ruling alliance in the state elections.
